    Jayamma

    from Mysuru, Karnataka

Tax benefits for INR donations will be issued by Akhanda Seva for International Shanti / Operation Shanti

Jayamma, a destitute widow living in Mysore, needs your help. She's been diagnosed with vulvar cancer, which can be easily cured if caught early.

However, after numerous trips to the government hospital and neighborhood clinics over the past three years, without any proper diagnoses or attention to her health issues, her cancer has advanced -- and she just found out a couple of weeks ago what's been ailing her.

Life has been difficult for Jayamma for a long time. She's a domestic laborer and has other complicating health issues. Her husband died a long time ago, and she has one son, Ashok, who has been blind (retinal pigmentosa) for 20 years.

Jayamma starts her cancer treatment this week at the oncology hospital, and her oncologist has recommended 25 sessions of radiation with a "boost," and 5 chemotherapy doses, along with weekly blood test and CT scans.

Jayamma also needs help getting to and from the hospital every day, which is about 9.2 km from her home.

Jayamma's new ob/gyn has offered to provide discounted care for her when she suffers from side effects from the treatment. To that end, we're also hoping to find a new house for Jayamma and Ashok to rent that is closer to us and her ob/gyn -- at least for the duration of her treatment.

Your donation will help pay for these expenses that Jayamma faces over the next two months:

  • Radiation treatment, Rs. 50,000
  • Chemotherapy treatment (5 doses at Rs.2,000 each)
  • Weekly blood tests and scans (6 weeks at Rs. 1200 each)
  • Daily transport to and from the hospital (25 days at Rs.350 each)
  • Food and other daily expenses (approx. Rs. 1,000 per week)
Do what you can. Let's give Jayamma a fighting chance, now that she's finally getting the treatment that she's needed for a long time.
