Hi, this is Jaya here. Many of you are aware that I am a kidney recipient and I was blessed to be given the Gift of Life by my mother. I am lucky that I was saved and I could put all the pain and suffering behind me, but it made me realise that there are so many, who aren’t as lucky.

More than a million Indians suffer from end stage organ failure - such as heart failure / kidney failure / liver failure, etc. Less than 10% of them are able to get timely help and atleast 10 die while on the waiting list, while they need not have died. They – someone’s father /mother /daughter /son, could have been living amongst us if only they had received the life-saving organ in time.

I decided to work with Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network (MOHAN) Foundation, one of the oldest NGOs working in Organ Donation in India. Established 20 years ago, it began advocating this difficult cause at a time when no one in the country was talking about it. MOHAN Foundation has saved more than 5000 lives by facilitating life-saving organs and has trained more than 1700 transplant coordinators, who do the difficult job of counselling bereaved families to encourage them to donate the organs of their deceased loved one, thereby saving other lives.

Starting Feb 2018, I will be running marathons to create awareness about organ donation and demonstrate to the world that “Organ recipients can lead healthy and normal lives, if only they were gifted with a second chance”.

I am on a mission to save lives by raising the organ donation rate through –
  • Hiring and training of Specially trained Counsellors who approach families about Organ Donation
  • Creating public awareness about Organ Donation
  • Training Volunteers, who in turn can help spread awareness and build capacity
Your donations will thus be utilised for saving many lives.

* Donations made in INR will have 50% tax exemptions under Section 80G
** This NGO is an Approved recipient of Foreign Funds under FCRA, 1976
