Meet Pearl. She was dumped years ago by her owner in Andheri West, found a place at a garage, dumped from there too and finally lives on streets. Being a domestic dog, streets are too rough for her.
PS : You can meet this beautiful dog at Azad Lane, Andheri West.
Pearl’s medical needs are being taken care of by Dr Kruti Dholakia, an ardent animal lover.
She is currently being treated for Left Auricle (Ear) Hematoma in which the ear gets filled with blood. This happens because the dog scratches the body part due to ticks and mites on the body. Her left ear swelling ruptured within three days of her homeopathy treatment for the same, whereby her left ear got torn. The skin of front side and back side of ear have got separated. This is adding discomfort and itching to the poor child. She keeps shaking her head rigorously and wipes away the medicines that Dr Kruti and her team apply on her left ear. Dwelling on streets has developed secondary infection in her left ear. Though, medications for the same are going on. We have to take her to vet every alternate day. Now, we need to hasten her ear surgery and get it stitched. Pearl is also in desperate need of intensive foster care. But they genuinely lack funds. Her treatment is costing nearly 10-15k excluding the cost of foster.
Pearl, since she was dumped on street has always been a victim of human cruelty and dog bites on several occasions. She also gets hits by a male cat residing next to her. She is so docile and kind, we lack words to express her. She has no friends. She lives alone.
The best part is, Pearl still wags her tail for humans. "Pearl teaches us the lesson to never lose hope", says Dr Kruti.
Dr Kruti takes care of around 100 street animals including feeding, medical treatment, hospitalisation, sterilization drive, reflective collar drive, rescue, foster and adoption of that area. What started as a small act of kindness of feeding two strays 2 years ago is a movement now.
An average medical case costs approximately 3-5k (not taking the extremely severe cases which go up to 10-20k). Also, the animal medicines and special medicated food, today, are too expensive to afford. Adding feeding costs and as the fleet of hungry animals and animal abuses are increasing, it is getting harder for her to make ends meets.
There are countless more animal abuse stories like Pearl.
Being earning by herself, without any family support and external help, it's difficult for her to operate single handedly.
Animal abuse cases are not given any weightage as well. Age old animal cruelty laws and lack of action by law keepers has paralyzed the justice system for our fellow felines.
Can you help them out, to save one more feline, one more wagging tail? It's not about resources, it's about having the initiative and energy, to save our animals and their rights.
Any kind of monetary and non-monetary help is appreciated. Be a part of the movement, be a part of a cause. Be a part in helping Furry Angels.
