    This fundraiser will benefit

    Deboshree Biswas

    from Kolkata, West Bengal

13-year old, Deboshree, understands her father can't be with her during her chemo because if he comes to visit her then they might not even be able to afford her treatment. Right now, every rupee counts a lot. If he spends it to travel from his village to Kolkata, then it will be extremely difficult for them to save their daughter from blood cancer.

"Once when my liver started bleeding after chemo, I was in the ward for 17 days. My mother had to sell off her jewellery so that she could continue She always dreamt of me wearing the same jewellery on my marriage, but now.. now she has to worry if I will even live that long. I have stopped looking at the mirror, I get so upset when I see that I have lost all my hair. I have not seen my father and brother for months, I miss them so much,"- Deboshree, 13.

She used to study in class 8. She has always topped her class but this time she failed all her subjects. After all, she unknowingly ignored her fever and weakness to be just some mild discomfort. Only in September, they got to know she was actually suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia after her biopsy reports.

Alone in the city, mother and daughter are struggling to be hopeful

"We both try not to cry but one glimpse and we both can't hold back our tears. It is not just the fear of battling with this deadly disease, but also the fear of how we will afford the treatment! She feels that she a burden to us. But my Deboshree is the only reason why I'm able to fight alone in this new city. Sometimes I get scared that her father is not here, how will I manage alone but her face reminds me of my strength to do whatever it takes to put a smile back on it."- Sumi, mother

Previously, she had a swelling on her forehead, that started bulging outwards. She was taken to Vellore first, where her parents were shocked to know it was a cancerous tumour growing since almost a year in her brain. Till now, they have spent 12 lakhs for her chemotherapy. Now, they are in no position to arrange 8 lakhs more, no matter how much they try.

Every rupee they saved has been used, but her treatment is still left

The doctors have asked to include more proteins in her diet. Well, but for them to afford milk everyday, is also a luxury now! She needs 2 injections daily costing Rs.800 for 3 months. They have to rent a room here because they can't afford to keep going back to their village in Bangladesh.

Then and NowDeboshree has undergone 6 chemotherapy sessions and exhausted all their money. Now, she can't continue her chemo unless they have paid 8 lakhs more. Her father was working as a farmer before he sold off his land. Now, he doesn't have even the Rs.5000 that he used to make through farming. There is not a single house in his village from whom he has not borrowed money. Her elder brother works as a daily wager and makes Rs.100-150. They are trying to make their ends meet but they are simply helpless.

Can you please help Deboshree continue her chemotherapy?
