Help Build Toilets (Restroom) for Girls

"Help us spread awareness amongst women and girls on sanitation and hygiene"

We're UDAAN Foundation team and we've been here in Hyderabad, taking care of girl child in need. UDAAN  started as a social experiment last year with the sole purpose of helping smart, underprivileged girls get an opportunity to pursue their dreams through higher education and eventual employment.

We are here to raise funds to Build Rest Rooms For girls of Zilla Parishad Girls High School, Munchintal, Ameerpet.

Did you know that “Toilets are a luxury in Hyderabad's government schools.” Despite the issue being highlighted time and again, toilets in schools remain dysfunctional.

Poor infrastructure and dreary ambiance are enough to drive children away. Educationists see a direct link between the high dropout rates and absence of toilets in schools. Sounds incredible, but that’s the bitter truth in the happening city which takes pride in hosting international conferences. A good number of schools do not have toilets at all, and wherever they exist the lack of maintenance has rendered them useless.

You will be further shocked at these facts:

  • The absence of water facility is another reason why toilets cannot be used, Zilla Parishad Girls High School, Munchnital, Ameerpet, is a case in point.

  • The city has 700 government schools and 300 aided ones. According to one estimate, there are 2,123 toilets in all. But only 582 are in use.

  • Staying thirsty, rationing water, using open areas or in the worst case, bladder control, are the ways adopted by the girls and teachers too.

  • Additionally, there are no slabs and no proper flooring in the existing restrooms.

Hello :)
We have been overwhelmed by the response we received! It has been absolutely amazing to see how everyone has come together to donate. We wanted to thank each and every one of you for donating!
This will be the first update of many that will be coming your way. Our main priorities for the school site is Sanitation and Hygiene.
In June, when we had the discussion with the principal and teachers about the first few action items that will be taking place, we came to know that government has undertaken water tank construction project as a part of Mission Bhagiratha (Pics attached below) and have taken dug the area surrounding the washrooms.  Because of which our project of building toilets has been postponed for few weeks.

We will be posting pictures and videos of the construction progress being made once we kick-start our project by end of this month.
