    Barun Ruidas

    from Bengaluru, Karnataka

"He's the smallest in the house -- the most loved. With him in this situation, the house seems to be empty. There is no noise, no laughter, no life in the house at all. Everyone goes about their daily life as though they are just programmed to do so. They used to be such a happy family. It hurts me to see them like this," says Bimal, Barun's maternal uncle.

9-year-old Barun hails from a very humble background. His father is a daily-wage worker and makes Rs. 50-80 on days when he finds work. His other works as a domestic help in houses making around Rs. 1500 a month. His elder brother Pavan and sister Shanti are also in school. With his parents struggling to make ends meet, Barun is very understanding and mature.

While most of his friends desire video games and expensive toys, he loves the dal-rice his mother makes and is content with playing cricket with his friends in the evening."He is also very sincere about his studies and scores better marks among the siblings. When we were on our way to Bangalore, he was worried all the way about a test he was missing in school. He was insisting on not going so that he could write the test," his uncle proudly says.

It all started with a headache a few months back. Despite constant medication and repeated consultation with various doctors, his condition kept worsening.

"It looked like a severe cold, which just kept worsening. I am really greatful we went to Sita Bhateja Hospital. The people there were kind. They helped us at every step. When they  confirmed the Brain Tumour diagnosis, we told them of our condition. I clean vehicles at a parking and can offer little help to them. So we told them that this amount was totally beyond us. They suggested crowdfunding and put us in touch with Milaap. Our child's life is at the mercy of people we must trust, though we do not know them."

Barun has been diagnosed with Brain Tumour. His condition is worsening everyday. The family has gone back and is collecting Rs. 20-30 from each household for his medical care.
