Baby of Banumathy was born very prematurely at 30 weeks of pregnancy (7 1/2 months). Her mother has undergone numerous surgeries in the last 5 years for her intestinal problems and hence her chances of getting pregnant were minimal. However the couple conceived after multiple procedures and long years. But Banumathy developed numerous complications during pregnancy with her blood pressures being very high and also ended up with renal failure. She had an attempted stenting for hydronephrosis of both kidneys when she was 26 weeks pregnant but the procedure was unsuccessful. The baby had to be delivered prematurely to save the mother. The baby weighed 1.152 kg at birth and required assistance to breathe because of her premature lungs. She is now 3 weeks old and weighs 1.162 kg. She is still too tiny to come out of the NICU and is only on tube feeds. It will take her at least another 2-3 weeks to be able to go home. Her parents who have already spent a lot of money on previous surgeries are financially exhausted and will be unable to continue treatment without help.
