    Baby of Meera

    from New Delhi, Delhi

"Whenever I tried to feed her, she would keep latching on and off as if she needed quick breaths in between. For 2-3 days, when she was doing that consistently, I could sense she was having difficulty breathing. Once when I woke up at 2am to check on her, I could hear her gasping for air. I woke my husband up immediately and when even he felt her heart beat erratically faster…we were both terrified."- Meera, mother

This 2-month old baby is born with a 6mm large hole in her heart

Meera and Girish's timely prudence recognized their newborn's early symptoms of an impending heart condition, but still nothing could prepare them to digest the news of their baby being born with a large hole in her heart. Usually a small hole heals on its own but unfortunately this is not the case with their baby. Her hole is greater than 6mm which means that without an Open Heart Surgery, she will not be able to make it beyond a few days from now.

Just when they thought their baby is safe now, the harsh reality stated otherwise

When Meera was discharged after her delivery, the doctor had briefed Girish to be extremely careful of certain things in newborns and one of them was erratic heartbeats.

"When Meera woke me up in the middle of the night, I immediately rushed her to the hospital because I didn't want to take even the slightest of risk. At first, when the doctor commended us for our timely intervention we thanked God that our baby is safe now. But when they mentioned Heart Surgery, I couldn't come to terms with it. My baby is so tiny and just 2 months old…how can they operate on her?"- Girish, father

In their baby's heart condition called Ventricle Septal Defect (VSD), they need the surgery urgently for time plays a crucial role here. It's been a month since they found out about their baby's condition and all they have been trying to do is frantically arrange INR 12 lakhs for it. This hole is large enough to cause permanent damage to the baby's heart and lungs from the blood leaking between the heart chambers.

An open-heart surgery is the only shot at saving this baby girl

During the open-heart surgery, a machine would be connected to stop the baby's heart. This machine would be doing the work of her heart and lungs till the surgery is carried out. It's an extremely complicated surgery but if successful it can give Meera's baby a new lease on life.

"As soon as I was informed that they would cut open my baby's chest, my heart sank in despair. All sorts of disastrous questions started running in my mind, wishing I didn't have to be at such crossroads. If I don't take this risk, I'll lose my baby forever but if we don't get funds even that one chance of saving my baby would be snatched away from me?"- Meera, mother

Girish was scrounging by to run a family of 4 with his monthly income of INR 10,000 in a metropolitan city like Delhi. After house rent and his kid's educational expenses, he was barely able to manage the household expenses. Despite that, he tried his absolute best to save money for their newborn's care, unaware that all of it would be used up in her medical bills. With time running out, this family urgently needs INR 12 lakhs or they will lose their adorable daughter forever.

Please help Girish and Meera save their 2-month old daughter by contributing towards her Open-Heart Surgery.
