A personal message from Amlan’s son Archito
(the main story continues below):
I would like to thank you all for your support. As I start my college this year, I would like my father to be healthy again and be an integral part of my life so that he can guide me in the years to come. As I eagerly wait for the day of the operation, I have been working hard to be physically fit and healthy to qualify as a donor. I don’t know most of you personally, but I would like to thank you for your help, without which it would have been impossible for us to fund the operation. We are truly grateful for your help. I would request you to circulate this campaign started by my brother as much as possible so that it reaches many more people who might help us.
I am here to fundraise for my maternal uncle, Mr. Amlan Dasgupta who is just 44 years of age and is suffering from deadly cryptogenic cirrhosis (CC), which is the end stage of a chronic liver disease. Even after extensive clinical, serological, and pathological evaluations, the reason for his cirrhosis remains unknown till date.
After being diagnosed with cirrhosis for the first time in 2011, Amlan was relatively stable till his condition deteriorated quickly in the last few months and now it is impossible for him to continue a normal life. Amlan is presently under the treatment of Dr. (Prof) Mohamed Rela at Institute of Liver Disease and Transplantation (Gleneagles Global Health City), Chennai.
After frequent visits to Chennai and series of consultation and tests, it has been established that an immediate liver transplant operation is absolutely necessary.
Since the chances of success of liver transplant operation are higher if the donor is a relative under 40 years, Amlan’s only son Archito, who is just 18 years of age, has decided voluntarily to donate his liver to his father.
Amlan who is the primary bread earner belongs to a middle-class family and works as a medical representative in Kolkata. The family with their modest means has been pushing their limits to care for Amlan and arrange for the funds for his operation. The pre-surgery expense for hospitalization and investigation for Amlan and Archito till date, liver transplant operation, post care, travel to Chennai from Kolkata and prolong stay for the family there, all taken together is very expensive and is beyond the means of the family. The total estimated cost is around Rs 40 lakhs (~USD 61,500) of which the operation itself is going to cost around Rs 24.5 lakhs (~USD 37,700)
After selling their house and reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues, Amlan still requires a substantial amount for his operation which is scheduled for the last week of July 2017. Under these circumstances, I thought of reaching out to friends and well-wishers through this crowdfunding site as I have heard many success stories that have completely changed people's lives for the better.
I would be grateful for every little donation that comes our way that will help me raise Rs 20 lakhs (~USD 30,750) for Amlan's operation. Archito, who gave his Class 12 exams this year, was unable to score as per his merit due to his family situation. Now all he wants is to save his father by donating his liver and see to it that Amlan is able to lead a healthy life again.
Many thanks for your help and support,
