    This fundraiser will benefit

    Amit Biswal

    from Bhubaneswar, Odisha

Story

“My child has never fallen so sick before. How can he suddenly have cancer? It is just so hard to believe. He used to be such an active and outgoing person and look at him now. It took just 1 week for my child to go from healthy to bedridden. It has taken his happiness, his health and is now threatening to take his life. What is killing me the most is that we are unable to do anything, but watch him suffer.” - Nrupa, father

I can’t be with my son when he needs me the most

Last month, Amit had a high fever. He started vomiting and had intense body aches. His body turned pale due to blood loss. Soon, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of severe form of blood cancer.

“Doctors say that he needs chemotherapy to survive. I have heard that cancer treatment leaves adults weak and exhausted, my child is just a teenager. But no matter how harsh it is, he needs to undergo it to kill the cancer cells in his body. It is heartbreaking that he has to go through it alone. I should be there with my son, he needs me more than ever but I am here in my village, unable to afford even the bus ticket to visit him.” - Padmini, mother, crying over the phone

It is a hard and long battle and these parents are unable to keep up

Padmini is a housewife and Nrupa works as a daily wage labourer. Despite the treatment being beyond their means, they have not given up their efforts. The family continues to run from pillar to post in the hope of arranging some money for daily expenses. They have exhausted everything they had in tests and travel to the city, leaving them without even enough for their food.

“I took loans, borrowed from friends and family, used all my savings and sold everything that I could, but no matter how hard I try it will not be enough. It is a long, hard battle and I feel defeated already, unable to save my son.” - Nrupa

"I want him to be hopeful and cheerful again. I want him to stop thinking about his sickness. All of this will only happen when he gets this treatment. Why is God being so cruel? I just want him to live a normal life like other children.” -Nrupa
