TO LIVE IS TO SUFFER, AND TO SURVIVE IS TO FIND SOME MEANING IN THE SUFFERING!

The story below has been written from his mothers point of view.

Dear generous donors, it is with a heavy heart and a spirit of humility indeed I would like to plead the cause of my son and only child.
Soon after marriage, and after delivering my son, I was deserted by my husband. Therefore, I singlehandedly raised my son with a job as a teacher, having lived within our means and with a sense of dignity.

After my son had completed his +2 exams in flying colors, I obtained a seat for him in a local engineering college hoping in a respectable future for a fatherless child. Within 10 days of having admitted him, he was diagnosed with end stage renal failure at the age of 18 years. Since then he has been on kidney dialysis, thrice a week for the past 5+ years.

With great difficulty, due to his physical predicament and the debilitating nature of dialysis, he completed 2 years of engineering.

At the end of 2 year of dialysis, which had taken a toll on my son’s health, when he had a fall from his cot, his spinal cord nerves got compressed leaving him paralyzed in the right leg. At that instance the Doctors gave him only 50% chances of living and walking again. My son fought a brave fight and came out of the life threatening and complicated surgery, of course with a titanium rod in his back. Having been confined to a wheelchair for some months and with the assisted physiotherapy, he was back on his feet 6 months later, a miracle indeed.

After this, in order to give him a sense of normality, so that he could go back to college, he had one more surgery to do home dialysis which proved futile.

Meanwhile, I have registered him for a Cadaver kidney transplant, as no one from the family have come forward to donate.

My son, who is 23 years old now, has journeyed these past 5 odd years with great patience and resilience, taking blow after blow. He has fought a difficult battle with the complexities of dialysis leaving him physically drained but has not killed his fighter spirit. He is a boy who never indulged in any bad habits. He has a great sense of humor although he is hurting himself. In the dialysis unit, he engages other patients to see the better side of life and to make each day count. He is most of the time active and never would like to be treated as a patient.

In order to supplement the huge dialysis bills which keep compounding each year, he has recently started a small aquarium business which is not doing very well as he cannot invest much time, as dialysis itself is a time consuming treatment. My son also wants to complete 2 more years of engineering in order to work and support me as I will retire sometime soon. Moreover, he would like to be a productive member of society and give back what he has received especially wants to do something for kidney patients as many are needy, hurting and need consistent financial help.
Since I do not have any medical insurance coverage not any personal asset to fall back on, the Renal transplant which my son needs now seems a distant dream. Even if I float a loan, which will run into lakhs, we will not be left with much to carry on.

Meanwhile, the estimate cost of the surgery is Rs.10 lakhs and thereafter medicines worth Rs. 20,000 every month for 1 to 2 years needs to be consumed. Thereafter medicines worth Rs. 10,000 every month lifelong.
So, I appeal to your kind self to do the needful and help us as my son needs to be transplanted as quickly as possible with the hope of a better tomorrow.

Thank you and God bless you all in all your future well-meaning endeavors. Thanks again.

-Vanitha Joseph
