Supporting OxyJan - To provide oxygen concentrators to Indians

The second Covid-19 wave has proved far deadlier than anything we have witnessed before  as cases and deaths continue to increase at an unprecedented rate.  Seeing my country in such a crisis, I too have been feeling helpless and  have been looking for ways in which I can contribute in my own way and hence...

To support the most worrisome cause of the shortage of oxygen cyllinders in India, I've started a supporting campaign for OxyJan Foundation, via Milaap.

The good people at OxyJan are raising 3.5 Cr in the first phase that will help us procure 500 oxygen concentrators. They are also accepting international donations.
(80 G exemptions available for Indian donors)
They have already placed advance orders for 200 concentrators, which are likely to be received in Delhi by the 8th/09th of May

In my humble capacity, the supporting donation target is kept at Rs 50,000 to help their glorious cause, and to endorse their cause further I've created a weekly podcast channel by the name of "Har Gal With Haryal", which would be used as an instrument to endorse this fundraising campaign further.
The proceeds of the campaign will directly go to OxyJan Foundation, so you can be rest assured that it would be used in a noble cause.
I hope and pray that if you are reading this, you will help us in making a difference.

It could make a difference to someone's life.

About OxyJan:

To further fuel this initiative, expand our outreach and maximize the social impact, OxyJan has collaborated with two large NGO’s i.e. Sambhav Foundation and Rotary International.

Based on discussions with various people in the medical fraternity (Doctors, CXOs of hospital chains, and Govt. Advisors), we have learnt that Oxygen concentrators are effective to treat patients with mild to moderate symptoms (particularly 85 <SpO2 concentration <94)

With this learning and a goal to ensure that no lives are lost due to lack of oxygen supply at home, we are starting with procurement of 500 oxygen concentrators for loaning free of charge to individuals, institutions, clinics, nursing homes. The whole objective of loaning is to ensure that the devices can be efficiently rotated for optimal use and maximum reach. We are building a logistics support network with our partner NGOs (Rotary International and Sambhav Foundation) and Corporates to ensure timely delivery, pick up and installation support at patient's home

We plan to scale up our efforts programmatically to increase penetration in Delhi and also serve other cities subsequently

FUND RAISING and UTILIZATION

We are raising 3.5 Cr in the first phase that will help us procure 500 oxygen concentrators. We are also accepting international donations. 80 G exemptions available for Indian donors

We have already placed advance orders for 200 concentrators, which are likely to be received in Delhi by the 8th/09th of May

These devices carry appropriate domestic and international certifications. Medical device experts and practitioners in our networks have vetted the specifications and the certifications for these machines

We are also placing soft orders/commitments for more machines pre-empting a higher demand in the coming few weeks

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

We want to distribute these O2 Concentrators under a loan program (free of charge), to the following
  • Individuals with mild to moderate symptoms and who have been advised home care with external oxygen support, owing to an acute shortage of hospital beds, which are prioritized for critically ill patients currently. The concentrator will be loaned directly to the patient for a fixed duration based on pre-defined selection criteria and completely free of charge
  • Underserved hospitals, clinics, temporary medical facilities set up by various private and public organizations/foundations, and nursing homes

IMPACT

  • Timely oxygen support prevents health from deteriorating faster - In that eventuality when hospitalization is needed and beds are difficult to find, the machine can potentially provide a cushion before severity of the disease increases. It enables patients to buy time while they scramble for beds
  • Unburden the Medical and Hospital infrastructure, which has completely collapsed – As per feedback received from our network of doctors and medical experts, nearly half of the Covid patients seeking hospitalisation can be treated at home if they are given oxygen support, thereby enabling availability of beds, equipments, ambulances and similar services for critically ill patients
  • Break the chain - Risk of infection/re-infection in hospitals is high for kin/attendants of patients and recovered patients. Homecare using oxygen concentrators, for both pre and post treatment phases, can potentially help contain the spread to a large extent

Frequently Asked Questions, addressed by Team Milaap

1) Are there any fees associated with the campaign?
No. Milaap is a free fundraising platform. We do not deduct any fees from your donation.  You are however welcome to make a voluntary tip to cover for our expenses, while making the donation.

2) Why are the exchange rates lower than real-time values?
We assure you that exchange rate you see  at the time of donation is purely notional - funds raised in all foreign currencies (we support around 12+ international currencies apart from INR)  are held in our US custodian account and transferred as $ when the organizers request the same.

The exchange rate they receive in Rupees is based on that date of receipt of funds through their bank. For example, current (27-04-2021) notional FX rate on site is  52 INR / SGD whereas the equivalent  FX rate at the time of transfer (on 27-04-2021) to recipient is around ~ 55.2 INR / SGD

The notional value of keeping a slightly lower exchange rate for display is to ensure that fundraisers don't suffer from a shortage should there be a fluctuation/volatility in currency movements. So we are conservative with our display. Please note that we make no money directly or indirectly in FX arbitrages or floats associated with it.

3) Are there bank transfer/wire options available for international donors?
