I am Prashant Kesarkar aged 38 years , living at Lalbaug with my mother aged 65 years and brother aged 32 years. We lost our father 3 years ago and since then me and my brother are taking care of my house and my mother.
I would like to share an incident that changed my life forever . On 6th September,2003, I was working in a printing press named AJAY OFFSET PRINTERS at Lower Parel and use to do job of putting rack of papers in the printing machine. While putting the papers in the machine my hand got stuck with the paper and entered into the machine. I shouted till the top of my voice and my fellow workers immediately went to turn off the machine , but it was very late, by that time i had my half hand in the machine all crushed. I did not know how to react, all i could think of is what will I do now, how will my parents survive, how will i earn money.
I was taken to J.J Hospital by my colleagues and was admitted there for almost 2 months, where my condition got stabilized and was operated by doctors at JJ Hospital.
While I was on bed , I was thinking I should die, there is no point in living a life without one hand, I didn't know what to do, how will I survive, will someone marry me or not, etc.
But then seeing the fellow patients and bed rest for 2 months gave me strength to fight back and start things again.
Post my discharge my boss gave me a chance and I was back to the same press doing odd jobs in the press. I am very thankful to my boss who did this for me. Since then my life is going on and I get a salary of INR 8067 / month and my brother earns around INR 7000 / month. So our total family income as on date in around INR 15000 /month , which takes care of our basic needs.
A year back I came to know about Prosthetic hand through my friend and that will work like a normal hand and can do all the things that a normal person can do with hands. It gave me a ray of hope of living normal life, working more hard and earning more money, but the cost of the prosthetic hand is too much for me to event think of getting it implanted.
So , I decided to take help of my brothers and sisters to help me get my life on track and get me the hand implanted. There is a company named Ottobock who will do it , but the cost is around INR 275000.
I need your help in raising those funds and get me my hand back.
