The Muskaan Jaivik Self Help Group has recently acquired Neelu. Neelu is a beautiful pack horse whose former owner (another) was not able to take care of anymore.
The problem for Neelu is, that the group does not have a shed for him yet. For several reasons, the transfer of the horse has, however already taken place.
Right now, a neighbouring farmer is friendly enough to give temporary shelter to Neelu, but that means a lot of work both for him and for us. Being a group of smallholding organic farmers, Muskaan Jaivik SHG has the resources to take good care of Neelu, but we are having trouble finding money for the construction of the shed.
The shed will be built as part of the groups farmers centre. The centre is a group of buildings, connected to a small farm. The horse shed will be built absolutely sustainable.
Only local materials (wood, stone, slate and mud), and local craftsmen will be involved in the construction. No cement is used.
The walls will be made of rammed earth, which used to be a more common way of building than it is today. That way, if the shed should ever be out of use and deconstructed, nothing will remain, but the stone foundation, some slate roof shingles and a pile of dirt.
