Dear Donors,

DHWANI ACADEMY OF PERCUSSION MUSIC is a non-profit culturally oriented charitable organization pioneered by world famous classical tabla maestro Pandit Abhijit Banerjee. As an institute of percussion music, it pledges to devote itself to the nurturing of a new generation of percussionists wedded to the cause of promoting ‘rhythm' as a concept of total music able to establish and perpetuate a tradition of its own.

Musical Activities:
1. Tabla Classes
2. South Indian Percussion
3. Instrumental Accompaniment Classes
4. Vocal Classes and Vocal Accompaniment
5. Percussion and Folk Music

The academy supports visually challenged students by teaching them Tabla free of cost, gives them scholarships, maintains instruments for learning & presently taken the project of printing music notation books in Braille.

The academy's Indian section works hard for the last 10 years to continue this project successfully. The academy started with a scholarship of 2 students per year and today the academy is able to provide 12 students' scholarships. The academy gives a cash award of Rs.3000 pr students for the year to continue and pursue their musical aspiration.

The academy gives free teaching at Calcutta Blind School, Behala for last 12 years. The Principal started with an evening class of Tabla which was not listed in the school's regular curriculum. Started with an evening class in the evening outside the curriculum, the Academy succeeded to have regular classes in the regular section which is included in the school's curriculum nowadays along with a yearly examination. The academy has been successful in maintaining a regular teacher in the Blind School paid from the fund of the academy. Along with this Dhwani maintains all the instruments of the Calcutta Blind School and each year donate the school one harmonium, tabla, and Tanpura and takes care of their maintenance.

In 2010 Dhwani printed the first book of Tabla in Braille.  It's printed in Hindi, Bengali and English( to be published soon). Dhwani wishes to take the project of printing more books on musical notation from Indian Classical and folk music.  Dhwani needs your generous support in order to pursue this huge task.
