    Drushya Sri Kakumanu

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

Drushya Sri was an active, fun-loving 5-year-old who used to be excited about Sundays. It was the only day of the week where Drushya Sri gets to eat her favorite food- biryani. Not only for her, but her father Sekhar also used to be excited about Sundays because it was the only day where he would happily play with her daughter after a stressful week. Drushya Sri would spend her entire Sunday dancing with her father and roaming around the city. But for the past 20 days things haven’t been the same for Sekhar and his family. Sekhar has been running around the city, trying every possible way to arrange money to save her daughter from blood cancer.

Drushya Sri has confined herself to her bed as she had no strength left to get up from her bed. Blood cancer is making this little one grow weaker with each passing day. She can only fight this disease with your help

Drushya Sri before blood cancer took over her life.

In just a month, Drushya’s life changed

Born after 7 years of marriage, Sekhar and Sudharani loved their daughter and always pampered her. She used to be so active that she never missed a day of her school and used to actively participate in every school activity. Drushya’s favorite pastime was playing with her dolls and spending time with his father, telling him endless stories of school. However, a month back, Drushya started having fever, not having any strength to get up from her bed. Sekhar took her to a local doctor in Hyderabad, Telangana and she was given medicines.

Drushya got better and started going to school again. But one day, Sudharani got a call from school saying that Drushya’s running on high temperature and she fainted in her classroom. This got Sudharani even more worried as she couldn’t understand what was happening to her daughter. ‘We shuttled between hospitals and we’ve consulted various doctors, just to understand about our daughter’s condition. She started complaining about stomach pain and even stopped eating food. I knew something wasn’t right. But I never thought it would be cancer.’ says Sudharani.

She needs chemotherapy to fight blood cancer

Drushya was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after a series of tests. It is a severe form of blood cancer that affects the the white blood cells and spreads to the entire body without timely treatment. Drushya needs to undergo chemotherapy to fight this blood disease. She has currently undergone 1 chemo session and needs to continue her treatment for 2 years to completely recover from blood cancer.

Sekhar feels helpless every time Drushya begs to him saying ‘Nanna, please take me home! I don’t want to take those painful injections.’ Sekhar would try to convince her saying that she needs to take it because of the fever she has. ‘I couldn’t tell my daughter that she’s fighting cancer. She’s too little to even understand what cancer is. I don’t know why she has to go through all this!’ says Sekhar as he tried to hold his tears.

Drushya needs your help to fight cancer

Sekhar earns a little income of Rs 15000 per month as a sales marketer. He could manage looking after his family with whatever he earned. But now it’s been really difficult for him to arrange Rs 17 lakhs to continue his daughter’s treatment. He has spent 1.5 lakh so far just by selling his wife’s jewellery and borrowing money from others. Now he has no money to continue his daughter’s treatment. Drushya’s health will only worsen if she doesn’t continue her treatment and she needs your help to fight blood cancer.

“The hospitals bills are piling up each day and I’m running out of time and money to save my daughter. Please help me save my only daughter.” - Sekhar, father.
