“I joined LECIN nearly 4 years ago at the age of 5. I am 9 now and confident to make English sentences and even write small paragraphs on my own. I love to come for the sessions held by Nupur didi and her team. They never scold me or ill-treat me for making mistakes or trying new things on my own during the class. Instead, they help me learn and guide me in a very patient and polite manner, which I don’t experience in my school. I wish to be a teacher when I grow up and would like to see our community school grow as an organization, teaching more children like me in our area in the long term.” - Supriya

Supriya is a bright example of how a small child from the slums of the capital city, despite all odds, financial instability and social hurdles, can aspire to be a professional. If provided with proper resources, guidance and a comfortable learning environment, she can achieve great heights in her life.

Manisha is a single mother who is struggling to raise her children after years of social exploitation she has faced. Here’s her story as she shares with our team. “I got separated from my husband over 3 years ago. He was an alcoholic and used to hit me after getting drunk. I have two daughters staying with me at my parents' place. I am concerned about their future. I have crossed 29 and want to be financially independent at this stage. I got to know about LECIN’s community school in Okhla, which I decided to join and and devote my time for my own development. They have been training me, teaching me as well as my daughters the basics of English, Hindi and Maths. I feel comfortable working with them. It will be a great opportunity for me if I am appointed as a full time teacher in this community school. I can now think of earning while contributing to a social cause.”
Who are we and how do we work?

Let’s Educate Children In Need or simply, LECIN, is a youth led non-governmental organisation based in Delhi-NCR working towards providing quality education since 2015, to the children from low income communities.
LECIN, recently started its first Community school in the slums of Okhla in March 2019, where, over 120 children have been enrolled till date from the age 2.5 to 25 years old. We aim to enrol at least 300 students by the end of 2019.

Our students and their teaching sessions are divided into two groups -
1. Play group (pre school) - Children upto the age of 6, who are not enrolled in any school yet. They are taught to read, write and solve puzzles.
2. Students who are enrolled in some government schools - They attend our after-school sessions where they are taught the basics of Maths, English, Hindi and Science.
