Asha Rekha: Standing for India's Forgotten Seniors
Our elders deserve your love. Say NO to elder abuse.
Senior citizens need your care—more than ever before.
At Hamari Pahchan NGO, we are committed to every elderly person having the right to grow old with grace, dignity, and independence. Regrettably, in India, millions of elderly people are not just suffering from poverty and neglect—but also abuse, loneliness, and mental distress.
The Hidden Crisis: Elder Abuse and Loneliness
Abuse of the elderly in India is a growing but undetected problem. It takes many forms—physical, emotional, financial, and even sexual. Most victims keep quiet, either because of fear or helplessness. In the absence of effective systems of protection or awareness, the abuse either goes undetected and unpunished.
Besides, loneliness and social isolation among the elderly are common, particularly those who live alone or are abandoned by family. This indicates depression, anxiety, and a sharp deterioration of mental and physical well-being.
What Needs to Be Done
At Hamari Pahchan, we’re committed to changing society’s mindset and supporting the elderly at every level:
We recently provided a wheelchair to an underprivileged elder, restoring their mobility and dignity.
We have helped numerous elderly people obtain homes in old-age homes, where they can be given adequate care and companionship.
We provide comfort kits with the necessary items to support them through tough times.
Every Comfort Kit has:
All contributions, large or small, bring us one step closer to reaching one more impoverished grandparent with warmth, love, and a smile to brighten their day again.
Because aging should never equate to being forgotten.

What Needs to Be Done

- Enforce stronger laws and policies to shield the elderly from abuse.
- Educate and train caregivers and healthcare professionals.
- Establish safe spaces and helplines for reporting abuse.
- Create community programs that combat loneliness—such as senior centers, support groups, and regular interaction initiatives.
