I am a class 12 student from St. Columba’s School, New Delhi. I study commerce and like to know about the impact of businesses on society.
I am passionate about spreading literacy to the disadvantaged sections of society, especially the children as they are the foundation of a progressive and peaceful society. As 2021 has been a rough year for most of us, the children with low access to technology have suffered the most; Their intellectual and psychological development has been hampered. To counter this problem and spread one of the most essential child’s rights- The right to Education- I am working on the project Gadgetshala under the NGO Hamari Pehchan.
Nelson Mandela has famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Because the world is shifting online, the education that young citizens receive must also be digital. Millions of children in India face a bleak academic future because of Covid-19. Nearly 30 million children do not have a digital device to access education online, according to data presented by the Indian ministry of education in parliament in August. I want to start an online free course project, which will require 3 things from you for global welfare- resources, time, and knowledge. This program can be divided into 3 steps: building an easily accessible platform, creation of knowledge bank, and providing the children the hardware to access the courses.
1. A low internet consumption app will be created that could be easily downloadable even with a weaker internet connection. It will be divided according to class, subjects, and language.
2. All the teachers of those students who have missed school, independent educators, college students, and even high school students would be our volunteers who will create the content that needs to be uploaded. We will divide it either on the basis of a subject-wise teacher or class-wise teacher, depending on the knowledge and time one can contribute.
3. This program depends a lot upon how many of these underprivileged students have the necessary hardware. Hardware includes- a smartphone with basic features, an internet facility (this can be shared by many students), and a central charging facility. To prevent the misuse of these devices, they can be configured to protect inappropriate content to be blocked. Voluntary funding will be required for the same.
I want to do a pilot project in Madipur, which is an underdeveloped region in New Delhi. The most common language is Hindi and English (for learning purposes). Thus, content creators will be easier to find. If the pilot project is a success, we can go ahead and start covering more and more territory depending on the funding received as well.
India's economic development is dependent on a well-educated and talented workforce. Education is a crucial area in which to invest. Millions of people's lives, careers, and productivity can be turned upside down by a shoddy foundation in elementary schooling. Already, a large section of India's adult workforce is ill-equipped to compete for skilled and semi-skilled occupations. The content would, thus, not be restricted to textbook knowledge; Self-income generating skills will also be taught, such as pottery, weaving, etc. With the help of you and everyone in the educational ecosystem, we can build a stronger nation.
