Modest Appeal to Respected and Generous Donors

In our Mahuva town, a number of small and marginal organizations are working for the welfare of the poor people of the society. Shri Allaram Sahayta Charitable Trust is one of the prestigious Trust. The founder and coordinator of this foundation is Mr. Amirbhai Dhabu, who brings this letter to you is a retired primary school teacher. After retirement, he has dedicated himself in active social service.

Since the formation of the trust in 2006, the social activities of this organization are of particular interest. The most deprived and economically backward section settled in the hook and corners of Mahuva taluka are given free foodgrain kit every month, free medical treatment with courtesy of Hanumant Hospital. Twice a year we give clothes and during social-religious festivals we provide sweets. At present, 406 such destitute families are taking advantage of such facilities. Besides this,  54 odd homeless souls are served free meals once in a day.

Charity is considered noble in our culture. Our religious scriptures tell us to give tenth part of our earnings in service to society. We have also helped and supported this organization. We can all help if not physically then by our support and financial aid.

Amirbhai, at his old age (75 years) goes to the shops and homes to collect small amount that can buy him foodgrain kits for 406 poor families every month. To maintain his service work, we should support him. So it is a request to hear him out and help his selfless endeavor in whichever way you can.

In the year 2006, services of "Shri Allaram Sahayta Kendra" started.

Our basic purpose and spirit: -  To give relief and food to people living in deprived and afflicted state. To serve abandoned parents, widows and HIV infected children, severely handicapped and terminally ill people, orphan and homeless children, poor and homeless families living on the roads.  To bring a smile in their eyes and to give a hope and breath of happiness to the ones waiting for death.

The fundamental necessities of human life are “food, shelter, clothing and healthcare”.  We started with a Minimum Program of providing Foodgrain kit of Rs.300/family once in a month free of cost. We started with 20 families who had no source of income.  This helped them to satisfy their hunger and not go out to beg.

The journey of service that started with 20 families in 2006 reached to 406 families in 2015.  By the grace of God and help from compassionate local donors, our “Minimum Program of Free Foodgrain Kit” has steadily continued  till date.  This little service is just a drop in the ocean, not enough to reach more than thousand such families living in despair in the corners of Mahuva district.

Later in 2010/11, we started with “Free Meal Service Program” for the people who are homeless and are wandering on the roads. We cook meal once in a day and deliver 54 tiffin parcels on their usual spots before 1 pm. With god’s blessings we have been able to continue to feed 54 such souls every day but we know that there are many more in the surrounding area who are in need of food.

To run “Minimum Program of Free Foodgrain Kit” and “Free Meal Service Program”, we don’t have permanent  funding nor government provides any sort of financial support/aide for our relief services. We constantly require donations from liberal donors.  Therefore everyday from 5.00 pm to 8:00 pm, I go from shop to shop to collect small amount that can buy us foodgrain kits for 406 poor families registered with us.  Our monthly cost to arrange 406 foodgrain kits comes to Rs. 1.21 lacs (Rs. 300/kit) ie. Rs. 15 lacs a year.  By grace of God  and  goodness of Mahuva’s generous donors, specially shopowners, we manage to  meet our minimum monthly requirement.

Today, I am 75 years old.  In future and after my absence I want the Trust to continue with the “Minimum Program of Free Foodgrain Kit” and “Free Meal Service Program”, without any fear of lack of funds.  Therefore in 2015, I formed a trust by the name of  "Shri Allaram Sahayta Charitable Trust" which is registered under No. 2973/Bhavnagar and  Mandal Registration No. Gujarat/3050/Bhavnagar dtd 3-6-2015  Since then all the services and administration are operating according to the "Gujarat Trust Act" rules. Considering our humanitarian services, trust has obtained permanent 80 G/5 Certificate from Tax Department which can be availed by donors for tax exemption.

As stated earlier, I have now crossed three fourth of my lifespan. My thoughts run in all directions but my body does not support. It is not possible to continue collecting donations like before – running from one shop to the other. I have a strong desire and undying passion to continue to run minimum program of free food service till my last breath. But economic cooperation is inevitable.        

Yearly cost to feed one family comes to Rs 3600/pa which is not manageable for small donors in Mahuva to donate in one go.  And the same helplessness pervades us.
