It's enough to express anger in facebook posts, hold candle lit mournings and express disgust sipping coffee in a cafe... is it? Violence against women is a serious problem in India. Overall, 35 percent have experienced physical or sexual violence sometime in their life according to an NFHS-3 report. If anything, we need to buckle up belts and support the crusaders in protecting our mothers, wives, sisters and friends from this teeth wrenching menace. Facebooking won't help... and Oh, it does not happen with uneducated people in remote villages, most women facing violence are educated and accomplished. This project has been conceived by the Akshara Center, an NGO established in 1995. For the past two decades, Akshara has worked towards a gender just society, a society where women can live with dignity, free from violence and discrimination. I will be running this campaign till my birthday in end of November and all the funds will be donated to the Akshara center for helping out women stressed in domestic violence.
