SDDNNA aims to safeguard the lives of our beloved 29 lakhs senior citizens in 28 of India’s most vulnerable districts. With senior citizens constituting over 50% of COVID related deaths, this collaborative effort between NITI Aayog, Piramal Foundation and District administrations alerts communities against the spread of COVID-19 and educates them on safe practices and solving their grievences if any.

In just 55 days, the campaign has reached 3.76 lakhs elders and recruited 41,754 volunteers.

The situation in Assam has taken a wild curve for the worst, as the flooding season is upon as, people have lost their homes and their livelihood and find it difficult to take care of their loved ones and are more at risk in contracting this virus. Our campaign has also taken this into consideration by connecting those people who affected by the flood to proper district officials who will help them to seek proper shelter and food for them and their families.

Below are some testimonials of elders who have benefitted from these services:

A volunteer named Bhrigumoni Deka had this to share about his experience,” Namaskar. My name is Bhrigumoni Deka. I am from Keutpara Village, Janaramchowka Village Panchayat, Darrang District, Assam. I am currently working as a volunteer under Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and Surakshit Dada Dadi Nana Nani Abhiyan. When I observed our front line service providers like Police, Health Workers, Doctors etc. fighting selflessly against the COVID 19 outbreak; I got inspired by their work and wished to extend my hands towards providing some support towards the people in need. Now I feel proud to be a part of the SDDNNA and ASDMA volunteership program. Through this, I have got in touch with many beneficiaries and updated them with the precautionary guidelines provided by the government. I have received positive responses from the beneficiaries. They feel happy to know that somebody's concerned about their needs during lockdown. It gives me immense happiness. I would like to be a part of such activities in the coming days.”

"During my Roza, my son and I could eat food because of your arrangements. You are no less than Allah to me” – Humbling words by Surya Khatun (Dhubri, Assam) to a volunteer who was able to secure funds for her survival

“For the first time ever, it feels like someone cares about the elderly” – Gulaam Ahmed and his wife, Nasreen Khatun (Begusarai, Bihar) had tears in their eyes because they were delighted to interact with someone who cared about them.

COVID-19  affects us all but 50% of Corona related deaths are in the 60+ age group, which puts every senior citizen at high risk. The risk is even higher in rural areas where communities face challenges in practicing behaviors necessary to prevent them from contracting the virus and in accessing resources they need to live. The campaign is designed such that we are be able to reach a larger number of people at a small cost by working in partnership with the local government who are doing their best to support these citizens.

Your contribution will help in:
  1. 1) Recruiting and training volunteers to call elders with empathy and teach them safe practices
  2. 2) Managing the data to track and follow up with 2.9 million elders to ensure that their problems get addressed
  3. Communicating the needs of elders to the District Administration so they can provide appropriate support

The generation that protected us is under threat. It is our opportunity to protect them. Especially where they are most vulnerable. Support us by sharing this message with your network of friends, family and associates so we can keep 29 lakh elders safe. Support us by contributing on Milaap.
