    from Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu

By The Children, For the Children and Of the Children

We are writing to you on behalf of Children Parliament, Dharmapuri district, Tamil Nadu, India. We have been running the program children parliament successfully since 2009. So far, we have stopped number of child marriages, rescued child labors and put them back into school with educational support.

3 years back, we started a library in our village 'Nagadasampatti' , the 1st every library in our village and our many generous people donated books and help us pay the rent. This holds the pride of 'World's first library started by rural children”. Now we have more than nearly 9000 books in our library.

We would like to drive the project in and around other districts and make sure that reading and access to knowledge  are no more a privilege for the rich but the basic right for everyone.

A physical library and maintaining that at each of these village may be ambitious and expensive at this moment, we decided to have a mobile library that will be accessible to all the 30 villages around Dharmapuri.

Why these villages?

Dharmapuri is mainly known as one of the driest districts also the most backward district in education. Many of these villages are located on hillside where the people cannot even have basic fundamentals like Primary Health Center, College, School and etc. In each village, we found nearly 250 students as average. Due to this pandemic, they have stopped going to school and have become victims of child marriage and child labor.

Most of the parents of the children are addicted to alcohol. Because of this also, children suffer a lot. In some cases, children are forcefully working to get alcohol to their parents. We are here to ensure all the basic rights to all the children. We are ready to knock on each and everyone’s door for the betterment of our villages.
