About BooksForAll

According to a research, 2 million students cannot afford to buy a book of their choice. The average price of a book is Rs 20 (half of the parking amount we pay in a mall).

This number has only increased after COVID 19, more so in the rural and tribal parts of India where due to tough economic conditions, kids are not able to avail foundational and literacy oriented books.

BooksForAll - a social initiative running since 2016 under the banner of NGO Guzarish - is working to provide books to every kid in this country, so that they have a chance to READ... a chance at BOOKS and a chance to DREAM.

How we do it?

We do this by bridging the gap between those who have used books lying on their shelves which are of no use AND the underprivileged kids who need them. We collect these old/new books from individuals, publishers, corporates, schools, etc. and distribute them to underprivileged kids with an aim to ensure that all kids read books and learn from them.

Till date, we have distributed 2.5 Lakh+ books (of which 1.1Lakh we have distributed in 2021) and have reached to over 5,00,000 kids in 15+ states. We have association with ~60 Govt/low income private schools and over 500+ NGOs  working on the ground. In addition to this, we have 5 Libraries in Uttarakhand, 1 in Andaman and Nicobar and 3 in Delhi where kids from lower economic background come and enhance their knowledge.

We are supported by marquee brands such as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Alibaba, IOCL, MakemyTrip, Snapdeal and Ericsson.

Mission 50,000 books

In 2022, we have a target to distribute 3 Lakh books. However, we are facing a demand supply gap and without solving it, we would not be able to reach our goal.
Most of our book donors are English readers and donated books in English language whereas a lot of our beneficiaries demand for books in Hindi and Vernacular languages (since those kids are just beginning the habit of reading). Similarly, while our beneficiaries ask for blank registers/notebooks, we only get half or totally filled registers in donation

Basis our estimation, 40% of our demand next year (1.2 lakhs, out of 3 lakhs) would be for Hindi storybooks/text books, vernacular books and registers/notebooks. While we estimate that we will be able to cater to 70,000 books using our incoming book inventory, we will still be short by 50,000 books

These are the books that are highly needed in the urban slums, rural and tribal areas as kids during COVID 19 have completely lost touch with learning and are still not going school. We don't want to say 'NO' to them.

Hence, we are collecting funds we can invest on the books needed and distribute them. For every INR 20 contributed, we can make available 1 book for 1 kid who needs it the most!

How can you trust us?

After the fundraiser has closed we will be updating the receipt of the books we purchase for the amount generated and share happy pictures with you.

Please come forward and contribute.!

Success Stories

Want to hear about a story from the ground?

Below shared video is from a Library in Nanakmatta, Uttarakhand. Nanakmatta is a small town at the foothills of Himalayas where Labour from various part of the country migrate in search of living. In the process of migration the kids within the labour community often have to compromise on their education. The children of Nanakmatta Public school (our partner organization) helped us identify this and are now enrolled as leadership volunteers with us who every day after school go in the libraries created by BooksForAll and teach the kids. With the help of story tellers and our leader volunteers we have been able to establish a connect between kids and books.

Play the video and watch kids get excited when they receive new books every time!
