My dear friends – I write to you today with a broken heart and a sober request.

As I pen this down, India has just made the world record for crossing 400,000 cases of the deadly Covid virus and is set to cross the half- a-million mark in the next few days.
These are, mind you, the official estimates, of the government.India has been caught off guard by this sudden and exponential rise and as a consequence the health system has been overwhelmed and is on the verge of a collapse – to be brutally honest IT HAS COLLAPSED.

Reading any daily newspaper, the personal text messages full of SOS calls, or watching the national television, is a morbid journey of pain, desperation, and human loss, all around.
We are all losing an acquaintance, a colleague, a loved one, EVERY PASSING DAY.

In the middle of a deadly, catastrophic, second wave India is struggling for essential supplies of everything that you can fathom of – hospitals beds, ventilators, ppe kits, ambulances, EVEN A SPACE IN THE CREMATORIUM.

India is losing 4000 lives a day facing one of its worst humanitarian crisis till date.

People are not just dying in their homes waiting for an Oxygen cylinder.

People are dying in the hospitals as they are running out of Oxygen Supply.

Such is the gravity of the situation that some hospitals are asking people to come for admission only if they can ensure BYOO – BRING YOUR OWN OXYGEN!

It is not Covid that is taking these lives my dear friends.

It is the lack of enough Oxygen.

India is literally on a half-broken Ventilator today gasping for every single breath of air.

International studies, are of the view that the current wave of India’s Covid variant is likely to leave India with 1 million deaths.

An already crippled health system cannot withstand that case load. An even bigger multiple of lives will be lost and we must do everything in our power to help with the situation.

Oxygen is critically required to treat patients affected with COVID. Oxygen concentratorsare alternate devices to oxygen cylinders – while cylinders contain a finite amount of oxygen supply, a concentrator recycles oxygen from the air and delivers it to the patient. They can be used to manage patient requirements without looking for external sources of oxygen.

Swasth Digital Health Foundation along with ACT Grants is engaging in the procurement of oxygen concentrators and channeling them to hospitals across levels of care in remote areas for COVID response and long-term health system strengthening. The current demand for Oxygen Concentrators that they are targeting is updated on this live dashboard.

Orders have been placed by this alliance for 20,000 Concentrators till now, given the resources.

The demand, however, is for nearly 3,00,000 more Concentrators as of now.

And this is where I seek your help.

Orders are being placed for both High and Low flow concentrators by this alliance.

The low-flow concentrators cost approximately USD 600-650 dollars and can treat and save the lives of up to 900 patients with mild to moderate illness.

The high-flow ones cost USD 1200-1250 dollars and can treat and save the lives of up to 550 patients with a severe or critical illness.

Given the size of its population, scale of the problem is indeed daunting. But together we can, and we will overcome.

The Swasth and ACT Grant alliance has both, manpower and the technical expertise, for such a campaign. Let us come together to bolster their noble endeavor.

Our privilege, dear friends, confers upon us a duty of responsibility.

Should your resources allow, please, please consider making a minimum donation of USD 100 for this campaign. Donate Now.

Help save the life of a colleague, a friend, a loved one, a fellow human being.

Let us do this together for our incredible INDIA.
