Our Story

Viholhetalba is a 37-year-old married woman hailing from Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Her household has 4 members. She currently accumulates a monthly income of INR 35,000. Viholhetalba has formed and leads a group of 29 women in requesting a sanitation loan of INR 1,500,000 with Saath Mahila for Toilet and Water. The current nearest facility for both is 180 km away, with a monthly medical expense of INR 200 for each of these women and their families.

These women are aware of the necessity of a hygienic and safe toilet for themselves and their families. Their families are among the millions affected by rural India's sanitation crisis. Most of these women and girls seeking privacy often resort to waking up before sunrise to relieve themselves. The women and daughters are subsequently at risk of infection, molestation, and even insect or animal bites. Matters of basic hygiene such as sanitation need to be given adequate attention for overall community health benefits.
