Our Story

Hansagovind is a 25-year-old married woman and homemaker. She resides in Wadhwan, Surendranagar, Gujarat. She lives with her husband and three young children. She has a family income of Rs, 30,000 per month. She has a small toilet at home. That toilet has broken floors and dampened walls. The seasonal changes of hefty rain cause damage to the tin sheets and weak roofs. She also faces clogging and dripping issues creating an unhygienic environment. She has formed and is leading a group of 52 members who face the same problem.

These women are aware of the necessity of a hygienic and safe toilet for themselves and their families. Their families are among the millions affected by rural India's sanitation crisis. Most of these women and girls seeking privacy often resort to waking up before sunrise to relieve themselves. The women and daughters are subsequently at risk of infection, molestation, and even insect or animal bites. Matters of basic hygiene such as sanitation need to be given adequate attention for overall community health benefits.

They want to construct toilets with proper septic tanks and drainage systems near their houses. But their mere savings are not enough to meet their basic wish. Hansagovind has come forward on behalf of the group to apply for a sanitation loan of Rs. 20,00,000 from Saath Mahila, one of Milaap's field partners. The loan will be used to build new hygienic toilets with strong roofs, inner walls and quality latrine pan. This loan will assist in improving the living conditions of her family by maintaining safe and healthy sanitation. Hansagovind and her friends will be thankful for your support.
