The moment you step into the unwinding lanes of Shahbad Dairy, you breathe in a different air, different from the otherwise polluted air of the city. Shahbad carried a different air which for once, almost felt heavy to the lungs. Not so much because of particulate matter polluting the air, but because of the pollution of issues that plague this unorganized slum.
With children dying of diarrhea, masses suffering with some or the other chronic disease, no sewerage line, no waste disposal system, issue of open defecation, acute shortage of clean water, lack of hygiene, diseases prevalent in almost every household, alcoholic parents and children selling empty alcohol bottles as barter for snacks, very high crime rates the list can go on....WHY?
- Why is it that people have to give up on their lives because they are denied of their right to healthcare?
- Why do people have to live an undignified life?
- Why is it that their voice remains unheard?
- Why are they treated like a third class citizens?
- Why is it that a an old man has to lose his eye sight even after spending Rs. 30,000 on the surgery?
- Why is it that people are forced to go to quacks because government hospitals are overcrowded?
Our Model
We believe in empowering the community and also collaborations at all levels. If we really want to impact the masses living in a country of over 1.25 Billion population, then we need to bring about a systemic level change.We have build highly replicable modules for various diseases like diabetes, BP, Cholesterol, Anemia, Cataract etc. All the on ground implementation happens digitally through software's that we have built. We are building a platform for data analytics and to map the whole life cycle of the patient as we believe in data driven decision making.
Our day to day work involves implementation of the modules, door to door detection, survey, follow up, camps, campaigns, community mobilization and awareness. We have been adopting innovative solutions of creating roles for the community which earlier was considered as the domain of purely healthcare healthcare professionals. For ex: our first level of screening for cataract is done by the ladies who have been trained to do so. From surveys to screening to follow up to campaigning everything is done by our volunteers and then finally filtered lot is screened by Doctors and other healthcare professionals.
We want to open up the healthcare sector to the masses by creating roles for every section of the society. Like in education sector each one of us can contribute in some way or the other, similarly we aspire to open doors of healthcare sector for the masses.
The funds will be used to meet our operational expenses, to mobilize the community, provide training to the local people, develop modules and to build our platform.
Our Team
It would be unjust if we do not mention about our real warriors behind this movement. Our team members come from all spheres of life. We have over 50 team members. There is one thing that weaves us all together and that is our sense of purpose & a connect with the cause.
They are all investors in the Healthcare Sector in terms of time and effort. They found their Way 2 Karma and embarked this journey of change. Can We Gift Them A Better Future?
