Sampoorna, a project of KILIKILI Trust, aims to use music as a tool to develop requisite skills in children with autism. Using an ecelectic mix of Indian and Western classical, film and devotional music, both vocal and instrumental, Sampoorna works on building connectedness, communication and social skills.
Sampoorna has helped stimulate speech in non verbal children. Children have learnt to take turns, to listen when someone else is singing and have picked up social cues such as clapping when a piece of music is completed. Sampoorna has also identified and developed innate musical talent in many children, with some children now learning vocal or instrumental music with trained musicians in the community.
