In midst of monetary driven motivations all over, candles surged through in 2005 with a different perspective. It emancipates you from the clutches of financial urges, set upon by various spheres of people that obscure us with a fear of our money not being utilized judiciously. Candles’ core principles, that which makes it stand apart from the flock is its unrelenting attitude of upholding its prime objective intact, irrespective of the ravages of time. Candles was re-started in the year 2010 and has completed 4 years visiting at least 50 homes in this span. Prime Objective : To visit orphanages / old age homes, once in a month, satisfy them with any of their timely needs and spend some time with the inmates. Work Plan: · To gather together once in a month (Sunday usually). · To choose an orphanage / old age home in Chennai city or suburbs, probably through contacts outside or inside our group. · To enquire about the basic needs actually required by the home for that moment so that we could buy those needs to donate them, instead of giving them money. ( this is for a satisfaction that our money has fully been spent for the utility of those destitute ) · Most importantly to spend some time together with them, so that love and happiness are shared. · The money put together for buying the needs of the home is as each one’s own will. There is no compulsion or equal sharing of that sort. You can contribute to any amount through this portal and it will be spent on the basic needs of one or more homes/villages listed below: 1. Sagayapuram Village - near utthiramerur, Chengelput This village, encompasses people of “Dhobis” in origin, in perspective of their occupation. But as days have evolved, they have migrated slowly into various fields of occupation such as agriculture, construction etc., as daily coolies. Though their average income pushes them only to the BPL status, being unable to make ends meet for their families. Though some have been blessed with houses by some NGO, several still stay in thatched roofs. Life and death often takes turn easily with their unsecured living in terms of financial disabilities. 2. Home of Hope (Children’s Home) - Pakkam New Colony, Tiruninravur Periyapalayam Road, Pakkam – 602024. No. of Children - 32, Requires groceries and white board to teach children. 3. Aruwe ( A home for the old aged) -no: 11, Soliamman koil st., Ayanavaram, Chennai-600023 (via Kilpauk Water Tank) (Opp to the Medina Mosque) They permanently shelter and take care of 35 Old aged women and 6 children. They offer basic amenities for education and living for 124 other children and 5 old aged women respectively, who are not permanently homed there.
