#EmpowerRuralGraduates #MeForYou

Lack of awareness and access to opportunity is keeping India’s rural college graduates to realize their potential.

Rural communities invest in higher education of their youth with a faith of having better lives. Yet, experience shows that improving education without awareness and access to job/career opportunities will likely have no impact.

Today, rural graduates are mostly first generation college goers who lack awareness about job opportunities, cannot access resources and do not have skills to fit into the market.

What are we doing to solve it?
At Bodhi Tree Skills, we conduct career awareness sessions/ training programs which are specifically designed to meet the needs and demands of rural college graduates.

BTS trains rural college graduates on Leadership and professional skills through activity based learning.

Our sessions include 'Knowing Yourself', 'Life Skills', 'Resume Writing', 'Interview Skills' and a final session on 'Exposure to Opportunities'.

We endeavour to equip rural college graduates with professional skills in order to empower them to explore and choose best career option for them which could be either joining the workforce or pursuing higher education.

We envision providing rural graduates with customized information on educational and career opportunities create platforms for graduates to gain exposure and acquire professional skills and link them to jobs and higher education opportunities.

Our aim is to make graduates aware of the opportunities, to give courage to pursue their passion, to guide them to reach their potentials and to help them to live an empowered life.

Why are we fundraising?
In addition to access, rural college graduates are also often limited by financial barriers like training cost and travel cost to urban areas to attend career counselling workshops/ sessions and non financial barriers like difficulty in understanding.

Bodhi Tree Skills wants to create a level playing field for rural college graduates by removing these barriers to compete with their urban counterparts. We need your support to conduct career awareness camps in rural colleges and villages

How would we spend the money?
We are aiming to raise a total sum of Rs.5,50,000. This sum would cover the cost of all the career awareness sessions we conduct in next one year. We plan to conduct 150 career awareness session of which 100 session in colleges and 50 sessions in rural villages, each session will have 50 graduates.

Our village program will have trainer cost, transportation cost, Venue and chair rent, Refreshments, stationery and other expenses. Our college program incurs the same expense except Venue and chair cost and refreshments

Each village session would cost us Rs.5000/- and our college sessions Rs. 3000/-

Here are few examples of amount you can donate
  • Rs.500 helps 5 students to attend awareness session in village
  • Rs. 300 helps 5 students to attend awareness session in a rural college
  • Rs.5000 helps us to conduct a career awareness session which will benefit ~ 50 students in a village
  • Rs.3000 helps us to conduct a career awareness session which will benefit ~ 50 students in a college

Why I am fundraising?
I grew up in a small village in Tirunelveli,  TamilNadu. Being the first generation graduate, there was no one to guide. My parents are illiterate. I was looking for people to help me.  I applied for every opportunity in the newspaper and one such opportunity took me to Delhi to do a fellowship program. Today I am a Young India Fellow and an Acumen Regional Fellow.  I want all rural college graduates to have access to similar opportunities.
There is a difference between urban and rural college graduate not in terms of intelligence but in terms of remote geography, lack of pedagogical resources, cultural abstinence and poor infrastructure.
I want to change that.

What would you get?
Apart from bringing smile to a rural graduate's face and becoming a participant in their journey to empowerment, you can expect some hand-written gesture of love from these students to you. And if you visit this part of the country, you can be a guest trainer for one of our training sessions.
