A group of women from rural West Bengal, led by Anoyara, are frequently frustrated by power cuts in their village which can last up to 12 hours at times. Therefore the group is looking for a loan of Rs. 8,000 to buy solar-powered lanterns. These lanterns can last 8-12 hours on full charge and need no additional fuel except the light from the sun. Having a cheap alternative source of light will improve the quality of life for the group and their families as they will be able to conduct their daily work after sunset and their children can study despite power cuts.
