Rina is trying hard to support her daughter's studies.

It was a busy Tuesday morning for Rina Shricharan and her family. Her daughter Rita had already left for school, and her husband was busy at work at his tiffin shop. We managed to meet her outside her house as she was leaving for work.

Rina works as a packaging assistant at Minaaji, a local masala company. Her 8 hours per day job pays her Rs. 6000 per month. Her husband runs a food stall, and makes around Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 per month. 15 months ago, she took a loan from Milaap through the Mahashakti Foundation for her daughter Rita’s education, to enroll her in a pre-University Arts course. But she told me that they ended up using the loan amount for her husband’s business. They used the sum of Rs. 20,000 to buy 5-6 chairs for the shop. The increased income made it possible for them to enroll their daughter Rita in the +3 Arts course. “I want to find my daughter a nice man and get her married,” Rina shared. Rita, however, is 16 years old, and wants to continue studying. “It’s not that we don’t want her to study. We will try our best to support her education. But because of strained circumstances, we need to refocus our priorities,” her mother shared.

She is hoping to take a second loan from Milaap: an enterprise loan this time, to further expand their food stall business by purchasing a fridge. The financial improvement may help them support Rita’s future better. Thank you for supporting Rina and her family.
