Happy Lilaben with her buffalo
Happy Lilaben with her buffalo

51 year old Lilaben Kalubhai Bharvad, was waiting for me and Meenaben, a member of Prayas who accompanied me during this visit. Lilaben’s house is located near the Bharat petroleum Gas cylinder factory so the surrounding area has been well maintained.

Talking about her family, she lives with her husband and three sons. One of them is married while the other two are enrolled in a near by private school in class 9 and 10. She says, “I have arranged tuitions for them that cost me Rs 5000 for a year”. The tuitions are for all the subjects, as Lilaben wants to ensure they perform well in their class.

Lilaben along with her daughter in–law take care of the animal husbandry business and also manage the house. With the loan from Milaap she purchased a buffalo that cost her Rs50,000. The rest of the money was arranged from the savings. Currently she owns three cows and four buffalo; by selling the milk in the dairy she earns Rs 7000 for 10 days. Her husband takes care of the goats that they own and earn Rs 4000 by selling its milk.

Lilaben is happy that with this business she is able to educate her children and also set up a concrete house which cost her Rs 8 Lakh. She also keeps some amount for life insurance policy every month and has managed to pay for the current loan on time.

Lilaben is thankful to all her lenders who have been supporting her business. This business has helped her provide education to her children and also build a dream house.
