Mariyayee has given the solar lantern to her daughter

Mariyayee, a 60-year-old, lives by herself at a a small village in Musiri, Trichy. She is a daily wage labourer. She takes up a wide variety of odd jobs ranging from working in construction sites to the agricultural fields. She had taken an energy loan of Rs 2,399 to buy a solar lantern. However, after purchasing it she had given the lantern to her daughter. "I thought that my daughter and her two children will find it more beneficial and might probably use it regularly. Since I am out in the fields working all day, I didn't see the point of having the lantern," said Mariyayee. She further hasn't visited her daughter or been in touch with her in the longest time. She added that she has no idea if her daughter was using the lantern or not.
