Sattevva welcomed me and my companion Yallavva to her house. Sattevva’s family comprises of her two sons, one daughter, two daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren. She clearly understands the importance of education. Her sons studied till B.Ed. and S.S.L.C respectively and her daughter till 2nd year PUC. However, due to lack of jobs in the village, both her sons work as coolies in the farms, earning a total of Rs 240 per day. Her daughter, however, is an anganwadi teacher with a monthly salary of Rs 5000. While there are three earning members in the family, Sattevva makes it a point to not miss a single day of work. Even at this age she works as a farm labourer and earns Rs 100 per day. Both her daughters-in-law take care of the household chores.

Sattevva had a taken a loan of Rs. 30,000 from Milaap. With this loan she purchased a buffalo. The buffalo produces almost 4 liters of milk every day. Sattevva sells the milk for Rs 40/liter (after using some for their own domestic use) and this helps generate a significant income for the family. She tells me that she is very much willing to take another loan to further expand her business.

She bid me goodbye and quickly headed to the fields to resume her daily work. Her energy simply amazed me and I also fastened my steps to visit the next borrower.
