We had to stop midway of our ride as the skies opened up. After a brief rain shower we continued our journey to Melavadi. Bhuvaneshwari had taken a loan from Eravancherry branch of Bharathi Women Development Centre, one of Milaap’s field partner. She had received INR. 20,000 to support her agricultural works. Bhuvaneshwari and her son greeted us as we reached her residence. She had taken the loan to help with her Paddy cultivation. But she was able to manage the cost of cultivation from her savings she invested the money in her goat enterprise." I bought 4 goats with the loan amount and have been rearing them" she said. Bhuvaneshwari now has 5 goats and hopes to get a good return from the goat enterprise. She also works agriculture fields nearby and contributes to her household income. She would have been working in the fields if it weren't for our visit she said. She has a son and a daughter who are attending school. She thanked the lenders for the support and promised to repay them on time.
