Bhagabati Soondarai is a mother of four children. Her husband works as a government employee. They have three daughters and a son. Bhagbati’s eldest daughter, Chinmayee, is pursuing the third year of her graduation studies. Her second daughter is in her first year of college and the youngest daughter is studying in class 8. Her son has completed his engineering studies and is working at a private job.

The family is pooling together all their income to educate Chinmayee and her sisters. They also took an education loan to ease out the financial pressure. “The loan money is being used for my daughters' college and school fees. They also take private tuition. Chinmayee is preparing to take her B.Ed. entrance exam after college ends and the younger one is taking coaching to get a baking job,” she says.

Bhagabati wants her daughters to have a good career ahead. She wants all of them to be financially independent before settling down. Chinmayee’s youngest sister, Prabahi, joins her mother during our conversation. She tells us that she wants to become an engineer when she grows up. Bhagabati and her family are doing their best to make this true.
