Unfortunately, no one from the group was present when we reached there. Babita Khamari and group had received the loan amount in 2015 and they had already finished their instalments by mid-2016. My translator and field officer, Arvind had called Babita but she was busy in the fields. Being new to the region Arvind didn’t know most of other members so we went to meet Babita’s cousin and neighbour Suchitra. Suchitra, an Anganwadi worker, knew every one from the group. She told us that the group is now divided into two after the completion of the loan. Suchitra explained that every house in the village owns a solar lamp. The solar lamp has helped them in many ways during long hours of constant power cuts. Newly built toilet under Swach Bharat Abhiyaan can be seen right outside the houses. "We take a solar lamp to use the washroom at night" she claimed. Their children have their annual examination in March and they use the solar lamp while studying. Mobile phone, a basic necessity, also gets charged through the solar lamp. She appreciated and thanked Mahashakti Foundation and Milaap for the good work they are doing.
