18 years old Manita Maharana was my next borrower for the day. She lives with her family in Surya Nagar, Bhubaneswar. We reached her place around 1 in the afternoon and were welcomed by her mother, Anita. She was sitting in her grocery store outside their house. We chatted for a bit and were soon joined by Manita.

Manita initially shy, told me that she was in standard 11th. She said, “Political Science and English are my favourite subjects. I want to become a teacher. I tutor 10 students of standard 2 to 5, 6 days a week.” I asked her how did she find the time to teach, study and handle household chores. She replied laughing saying, “ Oh its nothing, I  have all the time.”  It was a pleasure meeting her. Manita’s parents together make around Rs. 15,000 per month. Her brother is 20 years old and is currently looking for a job. Her mother told me that the loan had helped them greatly in the time of need and they would like to thank their lenders for the same.
