When The Railway Station Spoke

The Railway Station has always been another dimension for me where anything is possible. Mysterious platforms that disappears, trains going to nowhere and everywhere, coaches waiting for their passengers for years, information given on speakers for aliens, rooms containing world's oldest artifact's and the spirits of people who got lost in all this chaos. There is something grand about railway stations, it seems to me that they mischievously show us the glimpses of what life is about to mock at our ignorance.Experience, the railway station gives, is somewhat esthetic for me. The aliveness of the station made me aware that, if I close my eyes the world would not stop existing, something I keep forgetting. The chaos at the railway station represents all the journeys the people are making and the infinite possibilities those journeys are capable of creating. Thinking of all those possibilities made me feel the presence of the grand flows running all around us. It is always a treat for the mind to think of such abstracts concepts of infinite magnitude.I was reminded of a paragraph I read in Sherlock Holmes ‘The Navel Treaty’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In a paragraph Sherlock Homes comments on rose saying:What a lovely thing a rose is!Assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers. This extra is what human life is about, we are supposed to understand the reason behind why we need this extra and use this understanding to create more. The extra is something that is subjective and is the chief source of our happiness. Schopenhauer says that, the objective  half of  life and reality is in hand of fate, and accordingly takes various forms in different cases, but the subjective half is ours, and in essentials is always remain the same. What railway station made me realize was that the sleeper class is as much same as the air-conditioned class for both provide us with different possibilities that  can be explored and it was my frame of mind that mattered the most. With these thoughts I started my journey to find the extra. Â
