This Father Has Lost His Daughter To The Same Condition That His Younger Son Is Battling Now

“When you lose a child, it takes away a part of you that you will never find again. I lost a baby to this same condition years ago, and lost something I could never replace. I will do anything to save my child this time,”

Ravi is a Social Science teacher in a Government school. His son, 11-year-old Thiruvasagam has been diagnosed with a blood disorder, the same that claimed his daughter’s life once.

He is so full of life, you wouldn't guess he is dying.

Academics, cricket, football, quizzes, dancing, debates, drawing contests, Thiru will leave nothing. He will rush to participate in anything that is happening around him, and come home with a prize mostly. He comes first in class as well. He just refuses to sit still.

In fact, he keeps the house alive along with his brother. Always up to something or the other. He knows little about his body’s inability to make blood. Thiru was only 3 months old when he was diagnosed with Thalassemia Major. As little Thiru is growing, the need for blood in his system increases. It scares his parents that he might tire himself out too soon.

As he is growing older, the risk keeps increasing.

“Earlier he needed a transfusion once a month. Now, he needs it once in 15 days. This is not safe. I lost my daughter while she was still a baby, to the same condition because I could not take her to the hospital for her transfusion due to heavy rains.” Ravi cannot even bear the thought of losing another child.
As Thiru keeps growing he needs more blood, and the transfusions keep getting more frequent. It is now affecting his health. He is weak and tired most of the time, only able to do lesser and lesser each day.

Ravi has a chance to save his child this time.

Doctors have recommended a Bone Marrow Transplant. This can cure Thiru completely and give him a chance to live a normal life. However, since there are no matching donors in the family, the procedure would cost 20 Lakhs, an amount too huge for an ordinary social science teacher to arrange.

The blood transfusions also require money. The medical expenses have not allowed Ravi to save much.

"Thiru keeps telling me that he is going to be alright very soon. He does not realize his father is failing him. Even the thought of losing another child haunts me. The guilt of the first has not left me, I cannot imagine my life, my house or my family without my child again. I would give anything to save my son.”

With our support, Thiru can live!

Funds raised through this campaign will help Thiru recover from this deadly disease. His family cannot lose another child. This is last chance to live.
