Anita, Chanda, Sagita, Nanda, Beby Zingare are residents of small villages in Maharashtra. Earlier, they were forced to get up early in the morning and walk long distances to get water. They told me that they generally work in the fields, but were forced to take days off because they would have to wait for a long time to get the water they needed. They also used to have to send their children to school and prepare food for their husbands, but fetching water took so much time, that they sometimes had to miss their other chores. Now with their own water connection(s), they said they are much happier. They do not have to waste all their time fetching water. Not only are they able to complete household chores on time, but they also can go out to the fields to work everyday and contribute to the family income.
These women in rural Maharashtra need a round of applause!
