With Her Mother On Life-Support, This Daughter Is Struggling To Keep Her Mother Alive

I am 25-year-old Kartikey Jadhav and what happened to my 41-year-old mother, Surekha Jadhav on 20 July 2017 was something that hadn't occurred to me even in my worst nightmares. It was totally unexpected. One moment she was fine, yelling at us for not doing our chores properly and spending way too much time in front of our tv sets, and the next we were rushing her to KEM hospital in a bid to save her life.

An unexpected tragedy

Two months back, my mother contracted influenza. We took her to a local clinic in Ratnagiri where it was suspected that my mother had H1N1. But after conducting, multiple tests, the diagnosis was ruled out. However, her condition didn't seem to improve and so we had to rush her to KEM Hospital. Upon admission, she was put on the ventilator as her lungs started shutting down. She underwent Respiratory distress syndrome and has been on the ventilator ever since.
As of now, my mother is not even able to lift her hands or legs since it swollen. She is not able to talk due to a tube in her mouth. Her lungs haven't been showing any signs of recovery yet and so the doctors have still kept her on Ventilator.

Family of humble means

My father is a primary school teacher and earns up to Rs. 35,000 per month. I and my 18-year-old brother are students. My father is the sole earning member of the family and whatever savings he had has been spent on my mother's hospital stay. We don't know how long will she require staying at the hospital. My father even took a medical loan but the bills keep mounting and every arrangement keeps falling short of meeting the burgeoning medical requirement.
We are extremely stressed and miss our mother dearly. My brother is in class 12 but is not able to attend his classes ever since our mother was brought to Pune. He keeps crying and despite my firmest insistence, he refuses to go back until he hears any positive new about our mother.

How can you help?

My father is doing everything in power to arrange the funds. But given our humble financial means, we are finding it extremely difficult to arrange for the funds. We constantly need money to fund our mother's ventilator stay without which she won't be able to survive.

Funds raised through this fundraiser will go towards the treatment of Surekha Jadhav.
