This 7-Month-Old Went Into Coma Because Of Rapidly Spreading Infection, Needs ICU Stay To Recover

It was just another casual day and Lichma had gone to the the kitchen to finish her daily chores after feeding Baby Sukhveer his favorite khichdi. A few minutes later she heard Sukhveer's loud cries and rushed to see him vomit everything that he had just eaten, and gasping for air. Not knowing what was happening to their son, Lichma and Bhuraram rushed him to the hospital immediately. But even before they reached, Sukhveer had lost his consciousness. And since then little Sukhveer has spent all of his days and nights in the intensive care lying still, with his entire body covered in tubes.

Little Sukhveer has been battling for life in the ICU for the past 6 days. He’s making progress each and needs to stay in ICU for 3 more days. But poor parents have no means to continue the treatment.

Sukhveer's health started worsening all of a sudden

Bhuraram and Lichma work as farmers in a village near Nagore, Rajasthan to look after their children Manju (11), Sanju (5), and Sukhveer. Bhuraram would start his day with spending time with his son, by making funny faces just to see him smile, while Lichma would be busy helping her daughters get ready for school. It was Sukhveer's smiling face that used to cheer up Bhuraram after a long day at work. Sukhveer was just learning to sit on his own and it gave the entire family immense joy looking at their little one grow. But a few days back, when Sukhveer's health started deteriorating and he began vomiting continuously, dark days befell the family. His parents rushed him to a local hospital, where sad news awaited them.

Sukhveer when he was happy and cheerful

“I want nothing than more than my son to be healthy again.”

Unfortunately even the local doctors weren’t able to understand what was happening to Sukhveer and they suggested Sukhveer’s parents to take him to Jaipur, Rajasthan for better treatment. But by the time they reached the hospital, Sukhveer slipped into coma. Sukhveer is suffering from a severe bacterial infection in his bloodstream which has spread into his brain now. He’s now on ventilator support and needs ICU stay to recover from this fatal condition.

“We have spent our days and nights in the waiting hall anxiously waiting to see our son. It breaks my heart to see my little one going through so much. The doctors told Sukhveer is getting better and he needs to continue his treatment for few more days to recover. But we have no money left to continue the treatment. I just want my son to be healthy again” - Lichma, mother

The little income of Rs 50,000 per year that Bhuraram and Lichma earn by farming crops did not suffice to start the treatment. They borrowed Rs 2.5 lakhs from their relatives and friends to meet the treatment expenses, but even that wasn’t enough to continue the treatment. They are now struggling everyday, trying to arrange money to save their son but even after taking help from everyone they know, they now have no one to help them end their son’s suffering.
