9-Year-Old Now Lying Unconscious In The ICU Has Only 24 Hours For Liver Transplant

"It has been 3 days since she opened her eyes. She hasn't had a single drop of water. I keep checking on her, calling out her name continuously, but she has not been responding. Doctors said we will lose her if she does not get the liver transplant in 24 hours. The transplant costs a lot, how will I arrange for so much in so little time?" - Uma, mother of 9-year-old Kaviya.

When we came to Chennai we found that she is dying

Two weeks back, Kaviya had a high fever and suddenly her body started swelling and her eyes became yellowish. Her parents took her to a local hospital in Villupuram. But medicines couldn't reduce her swelling - she started vomiting out even the water she drank. Ganesh and Uma took her to a hospital in Chennai where she was immediately admitted in the ICU. After a series of tests, doctors said that her liver has failed completely.

"As soon as we admitted her, they drained all the fluid in her stomach, she was screaming in pain. Suddenly she started having severe breathing trouble and she was bleeding from her mouth. We were told that she is very critical and  now only a transplant can save her, " - Uma.

"Even when everyone else gave up, we wanted to do everything possible to save her"

The parents were told that Kaviya's condition is beyond help and nothing could be done but Ganesh and Uma immediately shifted her to another hospital in Chennai, despite knowing that they cannot afford it. By the time they reached, Kaviya became unconscious. She was taken to ICU and doctors said that only a liver transplant can save her life and it has to be done at the earliest.

"We promised her that we'll put her in English medium school from next year and she was so excited about it. We never expected that this would happen. Everyone is my village love her. They are all waiting for her to come back, they are calling me continuously and asking about her condition. But I am not even sure if I can bring her home safe. " - Uma.

"We don't have money to even buy food, we don't know how we can arrange 18 lakhs"

Ganesh and Uma are daily wagers, they do construction work and earn around Rs 250 each per day. They have not been going for work since the day Kaviya fell sick. Ganesh borrowed Rs 15,000 from his neighbors and managed to come to Chennai. He has hardly anything left with him now and it has been 2 days since they have eaten properly. Uma is ready to be a donor for Kaviya but without your help, they won't be able to go forward with the transplant.

Kaviya has very little time for the liver transplant, her mother is a matched donor but they cannot afford it. Only your help can save her life
