“Kashif doesn’t know that he is battling a deadly disease like cancer and he keeps asking me when he will be better and be able to go to school. His entire body aches and I see him crying out in pain. He often runs a very high temperature. I try to comfort him saying that things will be better, but I know he is not convinced. I feel absolutely helpless as I see my son suffer in front of my eyes and am unable to do anything for him,” - Imtiaz, father of 11-year-old Kashif.
The parents did not take Kashif’s complaints seriously and now they are deeply regretting it
Kashif has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a form of cancer that affects the white blood cells. It occurs in the bone marrow and can quickly spread to the blood. Cancer has crippled the life of this lively 11-year-old. Now he is always tied to his bed and is too weak to even sit up. He is in urgent need of chemotherapy so that he can go back to leading a normal life.“Kashif was fine when he had gone to school that morning. In the evening he returned home with a very high fever and was complaining of a severe joint pain. We thought it was a regular fever and gave him some medicines. But nothing seemed to get better. Then when we took him to the city hospital, the doctors there told us that he has cancer. This came as a big shock to us because we had never thought something as dangerous as cancer would affect my child,” - Imtiaz.
Little Kashif has no energy to get up from his bed and sheds silent tears
Cancer has robbed Kashif's energy. He used to be a very lively child but now he is too tired to do anything. He can hardly eat anything and complains of a severe pain in his head.“Kashif has always been a very quiet child but he used to love playing with his younger brother and sister. But since he has been diagnosed with cancer, he has not been able to get up from his bed. All he does is lie down and watch his siblings play. I know he wants to play with his little sister but his weakness doesn't allow him to get up. He hardly eats anything these days." - Salma, Kashif’s mother.
The poor father has even sold his house for his son’s treatment
Imtiaz is a daily wage worker and he struggles very hard to make his two ends meet. He is the sole breadwinner for his family and all along he has been trying to arrange for funds to save Kashif. But now the costs of the chemotherapy is too much for him with his meager salary.“Seeing that there is no other way out I decided to sell my small house to arrange for some funds. But even that is not enough for his treatment. I don’t want to see my son die in front of eyes. I don’t know how I can help him.” - Imtiaz.
