Vasimakram Kondannavar, a 20 year old boy from Soudatti, Karnataka, was looking for a job after completing his PUC in Commerce. But the future looked bleak since most employers looked for highly skilled youth to employ. Eager to make himself more employable he decided to take up a vocational course run by Grameen Koota at the Vidya Poshak Training Institute in April 2011. Funded by a loan raised through Milaap, the three-month course enabled him to acquire basic English speaking and computer skills.
Today, he is happily employed at Aditya Birla's More, a retail supermarket. He has a steady income of Rs 5000 (~$110) per month and helps support his family. With his monthly savings, he will begin repaying his loans from September. Watch the story of change here
