Solar lanterns have eased the electricity woes of the village

I met Bal Maametakani SHG in a village of Balangir district of Orissa,India on 18th December, 2014. The village can be easily reached by road. Most of the group members are involved in agriculture activities for making a living and grow paddy, pulses and vegetables. People still have to collect water from an only available water supply tap which is 500 meters away from the village. The group has 14 members out of which 2 members have availed the solar energy loan facility of Milaap. The village has been provided with the electricity connections but there has been no electricity for the last 4 months as the only electricity transformer in the village has been out of work. They have had good experience with the solar lanterns and express their gratitude to Milaap. Because of the solar lanterns, they no more have to stay in the dark.
