Sandhya needs help saving her new-born premature baby

"It was a matter of life and death for me. The doctors said that if they tried to save me, my baby would have to go. I was seven months pregnant then," said Sandhya Gorde

I am Sandhya Gorde and on September 14, 2017, I and my husband, Vinod Gorde were blessed with a baby girl. But what was supposed to be a time of celebration actually was our worst nightmare because our baby was born extremely premature.

Doctors told us the baby had to be delivered immediately, because I could not sustain her inside me any longer. I have three elder children, all of whom were born via C-section. The doctors say that it is because of the earlier stictch that my last pregnancy suffered.

Soon after birth, she had to be rushed to the NICU as her survival looked bleak. She was extremely underweight and had trouble breathing. Since she came into this world, she has fought off multiple infections. She survived the ventilation period and is now showing signs of recovery. She weighed just 1.4 kg at birth but is finally gaining weight. The doctors are very positive about her recovery, provided we can keep her in the hospital for 3-4 weeks more.

I couldn't keep my child safe while she was in my womb, and now, even though she has fought to saty alive, I am not able to do anything for her. I am struggling to keep up with the duty of a mother who should do anything to ward off pain and suffering from their children.

Lack of money is coming in the way of saving my daughter. My husband is the only earning member of the family and has a private job with a low salary. We have already spent all that we had over the baby's treatment. Now, even our friends and relatives have stopped taking our calls. The estimated cost of my baby's hospital stay is Rs 3.6 lakhs. We are truly on our own with no one else to go to ensure my little one's well-being.

How can you help?

Your support can help us save our baby girl. Her birth was supposed to be a happy occasion. Before we knew it, life swept us into this nightmare. Funds raised through this fundraiser will help to keep my baby alive.
